How Destina Infotech LLP collects, uses and protects information through Destina Edu – Parent App.
1. Scope & who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how Destina Infotech LLP ("we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects information through the Destina Edu – Parent App (the "App"), an Android application that allows parents and guardians to view information shared by their child's school.
This Policy applies to parents and guardians who create an account in the App, and, where applicable, to information about students that a school shares with us so that it can be shown to a linked parent or guardian account. It does not apply to information schools hold in their own systems outside the App.
By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Information we collect
We collect the categories of information described below. Not every category will apply to every user or every school; what is actually collected depends on how a given school configures the App and what the parent chooses to provide.
Information you provide directly
- Parent/guardian account information — name, email address, mobile number, and a password or authentication credential used to sign in.
- Contact information — alternate phone numbers or addresses you choose to add to your profile.
- Communications — messages, support requests, or feedback you send to us or, where the App supports it, to your child's school through the App.
- Photos, media and files — if the App lets you upload a profile photo, a document, or an attachment (for example, to respond to a school request), we collect the file you choose to upload.
Information collected automatically
- Device information — device model, operating system version, unique device or app instance identifiers, and app version.
- IP address — collected as part of standard network requests to our backend services.
- Application diagnostics — crash logs and performance data used to identify and fix bugs.
- Analytics — in-app usage data such as which screens are opened and how often, used to understand how the App is used. Configured provider(s): in-house analytics (no third-party analytics SDK is used).
- Push notification tokens — a device-specific token that lets us deliver notifications (for example, a new announcement from school) through the platform's push notification service.
Permissions-based information
If the App requests any of the following device permissions, we only access the related information for the specific purpose described, and only after the permission is granted:
- Camera — used only if you choose to take a photo within the App, for example to upload a document to your child's school.
- Files/documents — used only if you choose to attach a file stored on your device, for example a report or certificate requested by the school.
The App does not request or use location data, and does not access camera or file storage in the background. We only collect information from the permissions above when you actively use the corresponding feature and have granted the relevant permission.
3. Student information
Because the App is built to keep parents informed about their child's school life, it displays certain information about the student(s) linked to a parent account. This information originates from the student's school, which acts as the source of record, and is made viewable to the verified parent or guardian account through the App. Depending on what a school chooses to share through the App, this may include:
- Student's name and photograph, where provided by the school
- Student or admission identifier issued by the school
- Class and section
- Attendance records
- Academic information, such as grades, assignments or exam results shared by the school
- School communications addressed to the parent, such as circulars, announcements or notices
We act on behalf of, and under the direction of, the school with respect to this student information. Parents wishing to correct or query student information itself (as opposed to their own account details) should generally contact their child's school directly, as the school controls the underlying records; we are glad to help direct such requests — see Contact us.
4. How we use information
- To create and maintain your parent/guardian account and authenticate you when you sign in
- To display the student information a school has shared, to the correct linked parent account
- To deliver push notifications about school communications, attendance or academic updates
- To operate, maintain, troubleshoot and improve the App, including diagnosing crashes
- To provide customer support and respond to enquiries
- To detect, investigate and prevent fraud, unauthorised access, or misuse of the App
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms & Conditions
We do not use student information for behavioural advertising, and we do not sell student information.
5. Our basis for processing
Where applicable law requires a lawful basis for processing personal information, we rely on one or more of the following: performance of our agreement with you (our Terms), our legitimate interests in operating and securing the App, compliance with a legal obligation, and, where required, your consent (for example, for optional features such as push notifications or an optional camera upload). For processing covered by India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), we process personal data in accordance with the lawful grounds and requirements applicable to the relevant processing activity, including requirements relating to children's personal data where applicable.
7. Third-party services
The App may rely on third-party infrastructure and SDKs to operate — for example, cloud hosting, push notification delivery, crash/analytics tooling, or (only if applicable) a payment processor. The confirmed list of third-party services actually integrated into the published App is: cloud hosting with Hostinger. No third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDK is currently integrated.
Each third-party provider processes information only as necessary to provide its service to us and is subject to its own privacy practices, which we encourage you to review. We do not permit third-party providers to use information collected through the App for their own independent marketing purposes.
8. Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account remains active, and for a limited period afterwards as needed to comply with legal, accounting, dispute-resolution or security obligations. Confirmed retention periods: your parent/guardian account information is deleted immediately upon a verified deletion request; student records shared by a school remain governed by that school's own retention policy.
Student information shared with us by a school is retained in line with the retention instructions and legal obligations applicable to that school, and is deleted or anonymised once no longer required for the purposes it was shared for.
9. Account & data deletion
You can request deletion of your parent/guardian account and associated personal information at any time. Full details, including how to submit a request, what is deleted, what may be retained, and expected processing time, are on our dedicated Account & Data Deletion page.
10. Security
We use administrative, technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. Details of our security practices are described on our Data & Security page. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children's information
The App is designed to be used by parents and guardians, not directly by children. Information about a student that appears in the App is provided to us by the student's school for the purpose of informing the linked parent or guardian, not collected directly from the child. We do not knowingly allow children to create their own parent/guardian account.
Student information may constitute personal data relating to children. Where India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) applies to the relevant processing, we follow the requirements applicable to processing children's personal data, including applicable requirements relating to parental or lawful-guardian consent. We do not use children's personal data for targeted advertising, and we do not undertake tracking or behavioural monitoring of children for advertising or profiling purposes.
Where student information is provided by a school, the school is the source of record for that student information and Destina Edu processes the information in accordance with its role and the school's authorised instructions. Requests concerning the underlying student records should generally be directed to the relevant school.
Full detail on how we approach children's information, intended users, and how to raise a concern is set out in our dedicated Child Safety & Children's Privacy page.
12. Your rights & choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, object to, or request deletion of your personal information. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at destinainfotech@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before actioning a request.
- Access & correction — most account details can be viewed and updated directly within the App's profile settings.
- Push notifications — can be disabled at any time from your device's notification settings.
- Camera and file permissions — can be reviewed and revoked at any time from your device's app permission settings; doing so may limit related features.
- Deletion — see Account & Data Deletion.
13. International data transfers
Information may be processed in a country other than the one in which you or your child's school are located, including where our hosting or service providers operate. Confirmed hosting region(s): Hostinger. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we take steps intended to ensure it continues to receive an appropriate level of protection, consistent with applicable law.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, our practices, or legal requirements. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do, and, for material changes, provide additional notice such as an in-app message. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
